Our First Feature Length Doc: How To Feed An Artist

If it is news to you that we are more than just a studio that produces commercials, I am SO sorry to shock you like this. Indeed, we are branching into making original movies and documentaries too.

In 2022, we took on our first original project - a mid length documentary directed by our own, David Klingerman, that brought us to Kenya for a two week shoot. We are deep in throes of post production for that project, but the ball keeps rolling. (Look out for premier info coming out hopefully soonish.)

In January, we were approached by a female director duo making a feature length documentary called “How To Feed An Artist”. The story and filmmakers behind it immediately lit us on fire. We’re also excited to partner with a director and producer team with such a vast and diverse background. This is going to be awesome!

So what’s the film?

This film is a love story; a love story that started with a woman and a dream, and over the course of twenty years, grew between chef & artist, employer & employee, a restaurant & its community, art & food, inviting us, along the way, to rediscover the vital nature of human connection.

The story centers around Mary Haglund, the chef and owner of Mary’s Gourmet Diner in Winston-Salem. Her restaurant sadly closed during the pandemic, but during its time, it was a beacon for the community and for the arts. Not just feeding and employing the artists of her town, Mary also gave them a platform to sell their art, to perform, to showcase, and to be themselves. Her restaurant was a part of an arts renaissance in Winston-Salem, and her food, hospitality and love created a wide ranging base of fans.

This film is for them. It’s for her. It’s for artists, chefs, servers and anyone who knows what it’s like to work a day job while pursuing their dream. This film is for anyone who loves or wants a sense of community. It’s for small towns and big cities across the world.

Where are we in the process?

As of July 2023, we are head long into pre-production and preliminary production, and we’re in the fundraising phase.

There are so many artists with connections to Mary’s restaurant. We are spending the next several months meeting with and identifying all the personalities that are helping us tell this story, and continuing to slowly roll into more production.

You can follow the film on social media to stay up to date with its progress and learn more about the story.

We launched our crowd funding campaign on July 11th!

Community is a huge aspect of this film, and we are excited to involve that community in our efforts to fund its creation. We’re donating and giving as much support to this production as we can, but we need to raise more capital to get it done.

That’s where you can help!

Clicking below takes you to the gofundme page for this film. There is tons of information about the film, the female director duo Cazap, and more info about Mary herself.

For those who are capable of donating and willing to donate, we are eternally grateful. Thank you for helping us bring this vision to life, and share this story of a trailblazing, glass-ceiling shattering woman.
